Brand identity

Before the website comes the brand.

We do branding for businesses that want to be recognised. A logo is not a pretty drawing: it is the system that makes your business work the same on a shopfront, on a phone and on a receipt.

In detail

What you get when you commission an identity

What files do I actually get?

A logo isn't a PNG. It's a system: the main logo, a secondary version for when the space is horizontal or square, single colour variations and inverted ones for dark backgrounds.

All delivered in the formats you need for digital and for print, so the shopfront sign, the business card and the Instagram profile are the same brand and not three distant cousins.

With the palette documented in HEX, RGB and CMYK, and the full type system. That's what lets anyone who works with you afterwards use your brand properly without having to ask you.

Which of the three do I need?

Essential identity is the complete system with its short guide in PDF. It's the minimum for a brand to exist coherently, and for many local businesses it's all they need.

Identity plus Social kit adds editable Canva templates for stories, posts and ads. It makes sense when you're the one publishing and you don't want every piece to come out different.

Identity plus Launch is for when you open a place or present something: storefront or signage mockups, a menu or price board concept, an event poster and merchandising. It's for seeing the brand out in the world before spending on production.

How many hours of work is it?

The hours are published because they explain the price better than any argument: between 16 and 18 for the essential scope, between 22 and 25 with the social kit, between 30 and 32 with the launch.

Packages include one or two rounds of revisions. Extra revisions or a change of scope halfway are quoted separately, and that's also said before we start rather than when invoicing.

How do you work on an identity?

We start from the business, not from the drawing. What you sell, to whom, what's around you, and what you want somebody to feel when they see you for the first time.

From there comes one direction, not ten proposals for you to pick blindly. Presenting ten options is handing you back a decision you're paying us to make.

And the identity gets tested in place: on a sign, on a phone, on a receipt. A logo that only works centred on white isn't an identity, it's an illustration.

What do you NOT do in branding?

We don't do AI generated logos, or versions of a logo you've already seen somewhere else. We also don't register the trademark: that's a legal filing handled by an industrial property agent, and we'll tell you when it's worth doing.

And we don't reuse between clients. Every business takes away its own visual system, which is precisely what you're paying for.

What if I already have a logo?

Then it doesn't always need redoing. Sometimes the logo holds up fine and what's missing is everything else: the variations, a documented palette, the typography and decent files.

Send it over and we'll tell you frankly whether we can build on it or whether it's worth redoing. A logo drawn by hand by someone in the family can have more character than a correct, cold one, and that gets respected.

What doesn't hold up is a logo that only exists as a JPG on a white background: that has to be redrawn, and it's part of the job.

Can I use the brand wherever I want?

Yes. Once the project is paid for, the files and the right to use them are yours, with no limit of media or time.

We keep the right to show it as our own work in the portfolio, which is standard. If you'd rather it didn't appear, say so and it won't.

What comes next

The brand and the website, in the same place.

If you want the website afterwards, we start from your finished identity instead of reinventing it halfway.
